Anointing of the Sick

On Sunday, February 12 at the 8am Mass, the parish will celebrate the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick for those who wish to receive the sacrament. If you are interested in participating and receiving the sacrament on this day, please call the parish office to register.

As we know from Scripture, Christ himself “showed great concern for the bodily and spiritual welfare of the sick” (Pastoral Care of the Sick, Introduction, par. 5). Through this sacrament, “Christ strengthens the faithful who are afflicted by illness” and guards them against despair (PCS, Introduction, par. 5). It “gives the grace of the Holy Spirit to those who are sick: by this grace the whole person is helped and saved, sustained by trust in God, and strengthened against the temptations of the Evil One and against anxiety over death. Thus the sick person is able . . . to bear suffering bravely . . . [and] fight against it” (PCS, Introduction, par. 6).

Anointing of the Sick is for those suffering from a serious illness, those who may be preparing for surgery, the elderly who have become notably weak, and even children, if they have sufficient use of reason, may be anointed. If you have questions, please contact the parish office.
