Motet Choir

STA - Motet Choir
Along with the celebrant, ministers of the Word, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, and cantor, the Choir has a special ministry as well, that of supporting the congregational singing as well as offering special music which enhances the liturgy celebration, such as a choral prelude, or a communion reflection drawn from the vast collection of sacred choral music.  Our dedicated group of volunteers which forms the St. Thomas Motet Choir is made up of parishioners who have made a special time commitment to rehearse weekly and participate at the weekend liturgies.  It’s a diverse group of parishioners, students from CTU and U of C and members of various religious communities residing in Hyde Park.

This is an invitation for anyone who loves to sing and has sung in a choir before, whether in a community choir or a college/university/high school choir, to use this musical talent by joining the St. Thomas Motet Choir. Parishioners have come by occasionally to explain that they would join the choir, but cannot make the time commitment.  While members are encouraged to attend all rehearsals, life happens, things come up, and one has to miss a rehearsal or two… Please do not let the occasional business trip, exam at school or other conflicts prevent you from being part of a beautiful experience in which you can join a wonderful group of singers who dedicate their time, talent and efforts to worship and help lead the assembly in prayer and praise through song.

The STA Motet Choir sings at the 4 p.m. and 8:30 a.m. Masses and rehearses on Saturdays at 3:00pm, prior to the 4:00pm MASS and on Sundays at 7:45am, prior to the 8:30am MASS.

Feel free to contact our music director, Luciano Laurentiu soon to set up a meeting and audition: (312) 550-1677, Email: lucianolaurentiu@gmail.com.  “Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.”  (PS. 98:4)
